GangPlank VGU



Gangplank VGU (Visual Gameplay Update)  One of most fun project I worked on while I was part of the Champion Update team.  I Had a lot of fun texturing this one and supervising Gangplank's other skins.  UV Unwrap and texture was done by me and model was done by awesome 3D artist Brian King.

Creating a stylized texture - Old Wood plank

Hey everybody here is another tutorial on hand painted texture.  This demo I wanted to show how I would go about texturing wood plank.  Key for me when doing a wood plank is creating sense of aging, how wood will peel and chip.  Focusing on layer of wood dept is key to believability in the texture.

Copper Aging Process texture

On this demo I wanted to show the aging process/ rusting process of copper metal.  Main thing to focus is the saturation of colors and how rust spreads on the surface.

Ground tile texture destruction demo

another quick demo on the floor tile texture.  What I want to show here is logic/ believability in weathering/ destruction.  I see a lot of random dings and chips that doesn't make sense on a lot of junior artist textures. If you put little more effort on the construction and destruction it will have better story telling to the texture.

ground texture demo

4 way tile ground texture demo explaining key to hand painted texture style is all on the subtle brush marks.  Basically flatter the colors and bolder the brush marks out come will be more "cartoony" and more variations and subtle the marks more mature the style will be.  All depends on what your end goal is but knowing how far you want to push is the key to the style.  Theoretically more render you do to your texture more "realistic" it becomes.
